Talk the Talk & Walk the Walk

September 10, 2012 Leave a comment

People talk the talk about giving back to society. I’m walking the walk to show that people care.

I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure because I want to give back. Specifically, I want to help in the fight against breast cancer. Your tax-deductible contribution will move us closer to a world without breast cancer.

75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in Northern Nevada to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.

We’re fueling the fight against breast cancer by funding the best that science can offer.  We will not stop until breast cancer is a distant memory in medical history. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?

Trustworthiness

Leadership, motivation, grit, and the ability to build relationships. These are only a few of the traits that many successful individuals have. But lying at the bottom of the box is Trustworthiness, which rarely gets recognized. Trust is the foundation of relationships – and ties into your career as well as your personal life.

As you progress through your career, you will have many clients. In academia, your clients are your students. In the professional world, they are the consumers of your products or services. Would they, as well as people in your life, say that you are someone they could trust 1) with confidential information, 2) to have discretion, or 3) to accomplish tasks (at a high caliber)? Like respect, trust needs to be earned. People that engender trust engage directly in honest conversations with colleagues, managers, or others on concerns and issues, instead of participating in “water cooler” talks about them. Communication is important, and it is the right kind of communication that needs to be fostered in order to build trust.

Of course, absolute trust is rare, and there are levels of trust. As you move higher in the scale, people will hold you in higher regard, which will translate into improved relationships and a more enriched life.
